Benefits of using timber for house build

The advantages of using timber in construction, such as its value, versatility, and ability to maintain thermal performance, are motivating private self-builders, main contractors, and developers to use prefabricated timber frames. The speed of construction, in any season, when using timber frames can lead to cost savings since it requires less labour on site, produces less waste, and has lighter loads for transportation. Additionally, precisely manufactured timber frame components can provide a more thermally effective building that can be made airtight faster than alternative materials that are higher in carbon emissions.

Efficient and durable

One of the fantastic aspects of timber is that it works as a natural insulator. When it is used for your entryways, windows, and floors, it helps keep the temperature inside the house at a suitable level. This is due to its thermal insulating properties, which limit the amount of heat that can be transferred. As a result, it cuts down on the consumption of energy needed to heat or cool your home, thereby increasing its overall energy efficiency.

Contrary to the widespread assumption, a timber frame is highly sturdy and resilient. When constructed from high-grade wood and correctly installed, it can last for many years. Some varieties of wood and solidly made timber frames can even stand for centuries. Also, it is quite cost-effective and straightforward to maintain. Whether you wish to change its colour or reinforce it, it is possible to do it efficiently and without burning a hole in your pocket!

Versatile

One of the great advantages of using timber frames for home construction is the wide selection of options available. You can find the perfect frame for your home, ranging from different sizes, shapes, colours, textures, and designs.

The great thing about wood materials is their malleability and range of uses. This allows you to craft them into a variety of shapes and have them installed quickly, and in any way that you desire.

Sustainable

People have been utilising timber for construction for hundreds of years due to its ecological and sustainable nature as a renewable resource. As more timber is harvested, it is quickly replaced by replanted trees, ensuring an ongoing supply. Furthermore, timber is typically milled in its local area, which not only helps sustain the local economy, but also reduces the amount of energy needed to transport the material over long distances.

Timber is also environmentally friendly. As a natural, non-toxic, it doesn’t release chemicals into the air, which would negatively impact the environment.
